I qualified as a doctor in 1992 from St Bartholomews Hospital and trained in Cambridge and Sheffield. During this time I gained training and experience in modern treatments for venous and arterial conditions and obtained a research degree (MD) in the growth of blood vessels. I am a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Vascular Society and Association of Surgeons in Great Britain and Ireland.
I have a particular interest and expertise in Aneurysm Surgery and Screening for Aneurysms. I have expertise in repairing aneurysms using both conventional repair and EVAR (stenting). Along with my team I performed the first EVAR in Colchester in May 2007 which is now an established treatment in Colchester.
My major interest is in aneurysm screening and I am the Clinical lead for the local Aneurysm Screening Project involving NE Essex and Suffolk. In addition I have a major interest in preventing mini strokes and strokes caused by narrowing of the neck arteries (carotid disease) for which an operation called carotid endarterectomy is often required. To this end I am the Lead Vascular Surgeon for the Essex Stroke and Cardiac Network.
I have a particular expertise is in the management and surgical and minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins. I regularly perform foam sclerotherapy, laser treatment and radiofrequency ablation techniques which leave little or no scarring.
I work as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Colchester General Hospital NHS Trust and provide private practice from Oaks Hospital.
